"The Great Draw of China" 7p.m. October 29,2008
Tom Thomson Memorial Art Gallery
840 First Avenue West • Owen Sound, Ontario • 1-519-376-1932

Ceramic artist, Susan Collett, winner of the Winifred Shantz Award and recently elected member of the IAC & RCA, will detail the sequence of the development of her work from residencies at the Sanbao Art Institute in Jingdezhen China, 2003 to the recent “jump and the net will appear” approach to working in a tile factory
by invitation in Fuping China, 2007.

She will give a survey of these influences and how they informed her work, from a sculptural approach of working with slip soaked papers & twine to a two-dimensional approach of copper oxide drawings on production roof tiles that resulted in a series of clay sketchbooks.

Susan’s work is now in the collection of The FULE International Ceramic Museums, China, The Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, Toronto, The Kamm Collection, Los Angeles, The Queen Elizabeth Hotel, Montreal & Ernst & Young. She works not only in ceramics but also with metal and as a printmaker. She maintains a full time studio in Toronto.
